How to Throw Montreal’s Best Holiday Office Party

The legendary office party. Either a bust or blast; office parties seem to get a bad rap. But we think you really can have fun with your colleagues if you follow a few simple tips. If you’re planning a holiday office party this month, read on to find out how to have the best holiday party ever:
1. Lavish your guests. Plan the best office party that you can afford. Show your workers what you really think of them! A meager or “economy” party will do little to boost the morale, or reward your employees for a year of top-notch work. If your business has truly had a rough year; consider skipping a holiday party and give your employees a cash bonus or gift. Better something small and of value than a skimpy party!
2. Get out of the office! Changing the scenery will do a lot for your team. Think about local places where you could host your office party. Keep in mind unusual or creative places as well: like an aquarium, museum or heritage building. The point is to change up the scenery and provide a setting where your team can loosen up and enjoy each other’s company outside of your usual four walls. Keep in mind your group and choose a location that will make hanging-out together easier—not more difficult. Make sure it is a comfortable situation for everybody.
3. Communicate any guidelines. Depending on your group and your business, you may need to communicate any expectations beforehand to avoid any incidents. If there are going to be rules on drinking, behaviour, or any other expectations be sure that everyone knows beforehand! If there are potential problem-people in your group, keep in mind how to help them be at their best and don’t create a situation where they’ll be prone to fail.
4. Provide entertainment. Oftentimes an office party will flunk because people are uncomfortable or just don’t know what to do with co-workers in a social setting. Skip the discomfort and provide some form of entertainment. Whether it’s music, a DJ, some sort of entertainer or activities; planning this in advance will eliminate those awkward office party moments.
5. Have the best food you can find! The holidays revolve largely around food. Everyone loves a well-made meal or table of treats; so be sure that you make an effort to have this part of your party the very best you can afford. There are numerous caterers or take-out restaurants in Montreal that have special services for office parties—take advantage of them! If you have the budget to hire an in-house caterer, do it! You won’t regret it and your employees will love the treat.
5. Clean-up crew! This is often overlooked…especially if you do go ahead and hold your office party in at the office! Make arrangements for a clean-up crew to come in after your party and clean up the mess! If you plan on doing the cleaning yourself, make sure you have all the basic office cleaning supplies on hand to make the task quick and painless.
