Buying Guide: Choosing a Good Office Chair

If you work in an office, chances are you spend a lot of time in your chair. They can be hard, uncomfortable, and leave you feeling stiff and sore after a long day in the office. Therefore, a proper office chair is needed. Since there are a multitude of them and everyone can quickly become overwhelmed at the time of purchase, our comprehensive guide will explain how to choose a good office chair. If you have questions to ask about the settings of your chair, read this guide to know everything about office chairs!

Questions to Ask Before a Purchase

There are plenty of different types of office chairs. What ends up being best for you is right down to your own personal preferences. You should have certain things in mind before you buy your chair online to make your search easier and make you feel more confident that you’re getting something suited to your needs. Consider the following before jumping into any purchase:

  • What your budget is?

  • What your chair will be used for (e.g. punctual, daily, intensive)?

  • Do you have any problems that you need help with, such as chronic back pain or neck pain?

What to Look for in an Office Chair

Good office chairs can make several adjustments, such as height, seat depth, front and back incline, etc. Therefore ergonomic office chairs are great for this. We’re not all built the same, so a one size fits all chair for 8 hour workdays will not be comfortable. With an adjustable chair, you can make sure it fits you. Some even offer lumbar support which helps prevent back pain due to poor posture. As we do not all have the same size, poorly positioning yourself in your chair will eventually bring you great discomfort.

You should be able to move easily with your chair, whether it’s to pick up an object further away or going to the neighboring office. This allows you, among other things, to avoid constant standing and sitting. It is also easier to move using the wheels to better place yourself at a comfortable distance from your work surface.

The fabric in an office chair makes all the difference. It should be breathable, especially if you are sitting in it for long periods. The seating should be padded and offer support.

Types of Office Chairs

The most common type of chair is an ergonomic office chair, and at Crites and Riddell, we have ergonomic office chairs that can be adjusted in many ways to suit you. Our Global Supra High Back Tilter provides full back support.

Executive chairs really make a statement, like our super adjustable Kriya Executive High Back Multi-Tilter. These have added headrests and tilted arm rests.

The administrative chairs are among the most frequently used. Their quality is therefore not to be neglected. The Huron Ultra Multi-Tilter and Backrest is a good example of a chair that offers a variety of adjustments.

How to adjust your ergonomic chair

To be considered ergonomic, a chair must be adjusted according to your size. To find the most comfortable position for you, you must:

  1. Stand facing the chair. The highest point of the seat should be just above the knees.
  2. Sit on the chair and keep your feet flat on the floor. There should be approximately 5cm (2 in.) between the front of the seat and the lower half of your legs.
  3. Adjust the front and back incline of the backrest as well as the height, so that the backrest supports the hollow of your back.
  4. Bend your arms in a 90-degree angle and adjust the armrests until they slightly touch the bottom of the elbows.
  5. Tilt the seat forward or backward, depending on your preference.

Even with the best posture, moving during your office hours is the most effective way to stay healthy. Despite this, an adequate office chair will limit the negative effects of being in a sitting position for too long. Discover our range of ergonomic chairs online today!
